Cooker - Oven Parts

Cookers & Ovens come in many forms. From Built-In/Integrated, Free-Standing, Under Counter, to Wide Range Cookers.

Cookers also have several fuel types from Electric Cookers, Gas Cookers, to Duel Fuel Cookers(Gas & Electric) – Gas Hob - Electric Oven.

Electric have two main types Static Oven, or, Fan-Assisted Oven.

Static Ovens don’t have a fan motor at the back of the oven wall. They normally have a heater element on the base/floor or two side-wall heater elements.

Electric Oven uses an electric element to generate heat.
Current flows through the wire in the centre of the oven element, where the electrical energy is turned into heat. The heat is conducted through the oven element then to the surrounding air.
Electric ovens have a thermostat, which is used to control the temperature of the oven. When the temperature goes above the set point of the thermostat the element gets turned off. When it cools off, the element turns on again.
They usually have two elements, a base element below and a browning element above. The base element mostly heats the air to provide a uniform temperature in the oven. The browning element is used to brown food, from the top.

Electric Oven uses an electric element to generate heat. The fan motor is also controlled through the oven thermostat.
Current flows through the wire in the centre of the oven element, where the electrical energy is turned into heat. The heat is conducted through the oven element then to the surrounding air. The fan motor circulates the air through the oven while the element is heating.
Electric ovens have a thermostat, which is used to control the temperature of the oven, & the fan motor. When the temperature goes above the set point of the thermostat the element gets turned off – the fan motor continues to run. When it cools off, the element turns on again.
Fan-Assisted Ovens usually have one element which is normally located at the back wall of the oven. Sometimes there’s a browning element which is used to brown food, from the top. The fan motor circulates the air to provide a uniform temperature in the oven.

A gas oven or a range as it is commonly called is a compact unit of four burners on the top and an oven which works on gas. Heat for cooking is produced by burning the correct mixture of gas and air.
The supply of LPG gas enters from the cylinder and is carried to the burner. In the 'mixture tube' the gas mixes with air. As gas comes out of the injectors/jets and through the holes of the burner, it mixes with more air and as soon as a source of light is applied e.g. a matchstick or lighter, the mixture is ignited, and it is ready for cooking. Usually there are four burners and the flame can be increased or decreased by a control knob. Gas oven requires pre-heating as it takes time for the oven to reach a pre-determined temperature. But a timer and automatic temperature control mechanism makes it very convenient to use. Not only it costs less to use than electric appliance but retains heats for up to 15 minutes so that it can be used like a food warmer. The oven burner is situated in the oven bottom, normally at the back of the oven floor. Setting the oven thermostat to a required temperature activates the burner and it works on the same principle as above. The air opening in the oven bottom spreads the heat and as the desired temperature is achieved the burner automatically switches of.
