My Vacuum Cleaner is Noisy. What can I do?

This is normally caused by either a fault in the (a) Brush Roll or the (b) Motor.

Brush Roll - The brush roll is normally driven by the belt. A high-wearing part. The brush roll in your upright vacuum cleaner is the first contact your upright vacuum has with your carpet. Best to check that the brush roll is running smoothly and also to inspect the belt when the replacing the brush roll.. The brush roll bar is a round roller with a row of brush bristles fitted to it. It’s connected to the motor shaft by a drive belt. The bristles can wear down. The brush roll ends can get damaged, or the bearings in the end cap may need replacing if they become noisy. The end caps can loosen or come off. The belt can come loose or snap.

If you need to replace the brush roll.

1. To inspect the brush roll, turn the vacuum cleaner upside down. The brush roll will be at the front of the vacuum cleaner.

2. Remove the clips at each end. Remove the belt. Lift the brush roll from the housing.

3. To dismantle the brush roll. Remove the end caps. Pull the brush/bristles from the brush roll.

4. If worn, replace the brushes. If faulty/worn replace the cap ends.

5. If faulty. Replace the entire brush roll.

Motor - The motor provides the power to increase/decrease the suction in your vacuum cleaner. Easy to fit. Quickly accessed under the lid. Most vacuum cleaner motors are fitted with carbon brushes that can be fitted without having to replace the entire motor. It’s important to clean the motor armature thoroughly before refitting the carbon brushes. Most Motors are fitted with carbon brushes. The carbon brushes can normally be replaced. Most other parts on the motor are unrepairable.
